Day two down!

Day two of my working week is done and dusted - courtesy of my having spent all of yesterday at the office dutifully serving out day one. Which means I have Friday off. Fantastic - but still a way away.

This week the early morning news editor guy is on leave, so I have the privilege of acting as him. Pretty cool, because I get to boss people around, organise the news diary for the day and send whoever I want wherever I want. Within reason of course - but it is a bit of a thrill to be able to choose who will cover the next JuJu press conference and stuff like that. Who knows - I may be the person who assigns a journalist who will go on to be revealed as a "bloody agent" or get touched on their studio or something like that. Possibilities indeed.

But it was a pretty mild day for the most part. Just a big bunch of cops gathering in Sandton, blocking off roads and jamming traffic in their efforts to show how tough and ready they are for the World Cup and how capable they are of smoothly directing heavy traffic through popular areas. Seriously. They had helicopters and everything in their "show of might".

Dancers taught Sandtonites to diski. A journalist on top of the open media bus got whacked by a tree and the whole parade was brought to a halt while he got medical attention.

Another journalist from City Press unfortunately got shot by a stray bullet when robbers went on the rampage at Campus Square.

A one-legged pensioner went into his grand-daughter's room, dropped his crutches and raped her 12-year-old friend.

Advocate Barbie wore a purple top blouse when she acknowledged her name being added to the sex offender's register before trotting off to jail.

These things I know because I was on top of the news today...
